Dr. Barry S. Taney is a highly regarded vitreo-retinal specialist with more than 30 years of experience with the Retina Group of Florida. He has been named one of the “Best Doctors in America,” listed as one of the “Top Ophthalmologists” by the Consumer Research Council of America, and was chosen for “How to Find the Best Doctors in Florida” by Castle Connolly Medical and the New York Times.

Dr. Taney received his undergraduate training at Brown University in Rhode Island, where he was elected to the Society of Sigma Xi, the International Honor Society of Science and Engineering. He earned his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and completed an internship at Hartford Hospital. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati and received additional training as a Fellow in Retinal and Vitreous Surgery and Disease at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Taney is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

In addition to his work with the Retina Group, Dr. Taney is an Affiliate Clinical Assistant Professor in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University. He has been a principal investigator in many pivotal national, clinical trials that have changed the management of many retinal diseases. He has made presentations at national medical meetings of the Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology (ARVO), the Macula Society, and the American College of Eye Surgeons. He also has co-authored articles for numerous medical journals.

Among other positions, Dr. Taney is a Past President of the Broward County Ophthalmology Society and the Caducean Society of Greater Ft. Lauderdale. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists, the Palm Beach and Broward County Ophthalmology Societies, and the Caducean Society of Greater Ft. Lauderdale. His other interests include golf, photography and boating. He is fluent in Spanish.
